Day 1: Addis Ababa
Arrive at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa and transfer to your hotel. Spend the day exploring the capital city, visiting landmarks such as the National Museum of Ethiopia, the Holy Trinity Cathedral, and the Merkato - the largest open-air market in Africa.
Day 2: Drive to Turmi
After breakfast, drive to Turmi - the gateway to the Omo Valley. The drive takes you through the beautiful landscapes of the Great Rift Valley and the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People's Region (SNNPR). On your way, you'll stop at the local markets and villages to meet the different ethnic groups, including the Gurage, Wolayta, and Konso.
Day 3: Explore Turmi and visit the Hamer Tribe
Today, visit the Hamer Tribe - one of the most prominent and distinctive ethnic groups in the Omo Valley. The Hamer people are known for their unique customs and traditions, including bull jumping and elaborate hairstyles. You'll also have the opportunity to witness a traditional bull jumping ceremony and interact with the locals.
Day 4: Drive to Jinka
After breakfast, drive to Jinka - a town located in the heart of the Omo Valley. Along the way, you'll visit the villages of the Karo and Bena tribes - known for their body painting and scarification practices. In Jinka, you can visit the South Omo Research Center and Museum to learn more about the different ethnic groups in the region.
Day 5: Return to Addis Ababa
After breakfast, drive back to Addis Ababa, stopping at the Dorze tribe village en route. The Dorze are famous for their unique beehive-shaped houses and weaving skills. You'll also have the opportunity to purchase some of their handmade textiles and crafts. Arrive in Addis Ababa in the evening and transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
