This is a 5-Day South Omo Valley Tribes Cultural Tour covering Addis Ababa , Arba Minch , Turmi , Jinka , Addis at a cost of $785. Below is the best Itinerary that helps you explore these destinations on a safari starting from Addis Ababa.
Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa
Upon arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, you will be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel to check-in and relax after your flight. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore the city and visit some of its popular attractions, such as the National Museum, Holy Trinity Cathedral, or the Merkato market.
Day 2: Addis Ababa - Arba Minch
After breakfast, you will depart for Arba Minch, the gateway to the South Omo Valley. Along the way, you will pass through the stunning Rift Valley and stop at the Tiya UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can see ancient stelae and tombs dating back to the 12th century. You will also visit the villages of the Gurage people and learn about their traditional way of life. Upon arrival in Arba Minch, you will check-in to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure.
Day 3: Arba Minch - Turmi
After breakfast, you will drive to Turmi, the heart of the Hamer tribe. Along the way, you will pass through Konso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where you can see the unique terraced fields and the traditional waga houses of the Konso people. You will also visit the villages of the Tsemay and Bena tribes and learn about their customs and traditions. Upon arrival in Turmi, you will check-in to your lodge and spend the evening at leisure.
Day 4: Turmi - Jinka
After breakfast, you will visit a Hamer village and witness their famous bull jumping ceremony, a rite of passage for young men in the tribe. You will also visit a Hamer market, where you can see the vibrant colors and traditional dress of the locals. After lunch, you will drive to Jinka, the capital of the South Omo Zone, and visit the South Omo Research Center and Museum, which showcases the cultural heritage of the region. You will then check-in to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure.
Day 5: Jinka - Addis Ababa
After breakfast, you will visit the Mursi tribe, known for their unique tradition of wearing lip plates. You will also visit the Ari tribe and learn about their agricultural practices and way of life. In the afternoon, you will fly back to Addis Ababa and transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
