Day 1: Arrival in Addis Ababa
Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, you will have the rest of the day free to relax or explore the city on your own.
Day 2: Addis Ababa
After breakfast, we will start our bird watching tour by visiting the Entoto Mountains for some high-altitude species such as the Abyssinian catbird, white-collared pigeon, and white-winged cliff chat. We will also visit the Menagesha Suba Forest for some endemic birds such as the Abyssinian woodpecker, Abyssinian catbird, and yellow-fronted parrot. In the afternoon, we will visit the National Museum of Ethiopia, which houses the famous Lucy skeleton, as well as many other artifacts of Ethiopian history and culture.
Day 3: Debre Libanos
Today, we will drive to Debre Libanos, a monastery founded in the 13th century. Here, we will see several species of birds, including the white-billed starling, banded barbet, and the endemic yellow-fronted parrot. We will also visit the Jemma River Gorge, where we may see the endemic Harwood's Francolin and the Abyssinian longclaw.
Day 4: Awash NP
In the morning, we will drive to Awash National Park, located in the Great Rift Valley. Here, we will see a variety of bird species, including the Somali fiscal, yellow-breasted barbet, and the endemic Erlanger's lark. We will also visit the Awash River Gorge, where we may see the Abyssinian roller and the black-headed forest oriole.
Day 5: Awash NP
Today, we will continue our bird watching tour in Awash National Park. We will visit the hot springs, where we may see the golden-breasted starling and the northern red bishop. We will also explore the acacia woodland, where we may see the chestnut-headed bee-eater, the white-bellied go-away bird, and the African grey hornbill.
Day 6: Langano
After breakfast, we will drive to Lake Langano, one of the Rift Valley lakes. Here, we will see a variety of water birds, such as the African fish eagle, the grey-headed gull, and the little grebe. We will also visit the nearby forest, where we may see the white-cheeked turaco and the silvery-cheeked hornbill.
Day 7: Awasa
Today, we will visit the town of Awasa, located on the shores of Lake Awasa. Here, we will see several species of water birds, such as the African jacana, the pied kingfisher, and the great cormorant. We will also visit the nearby forest, where we may see the red-billed firefinch and the yellow-fronted tinkerbird.
Day 8-9: Bale Mountains NP
We will spend the next two days in the Bale Mountains National Park, one of the best birding destinations in Ethiopia. Here, we will see several endemic bird species, such as the Abyssinian catbird, the Ethiopian siskin, and the blue-winged goose. We will also visit the Harenna Forest, where we may see the endemic Bale monkey and the African hill babbler.
Day 10: Bale Mountains NP
Today, we will continue our bird watching tour in the Bale Mountains National Park. We will visit the Sanetti Plateau, where we may see the endemic Rouget's rail and the wattled crane. We will also explore the high-altitude heathland, where we may see the Abyssinian longclaw and the Abyssinian ground thrush.
Day 11: Addis Ababa
In the morning, we will drive back to Addis Ababa. On the way, we will stop at the Ziway Lake, where we may see the African pygmy goose and the lesser flamingo. In the afternoon, we will visit the Ethnographic Museum, which showcases the diverse cultures and traditions of Ethiopia.
Day 12: Departure
